Overview
Old Tom Morris called this the finest natural links he'd ever seen, and the town grew up around it — a few streets of pubs and seafood spots wedged between the course and a surf beach, with the Cliffs of Moher ten minutes up the road. It's the "St Andrews of Ireland" on the scorecard, but the vibe is all west coast: sandy floors, live music, and nobody in a hurry.
Courses worth playing
- Lahinch Golf Club (Old Course) €450 Old Tom Morris, 1894, home of the Klondyke and the Dell — two of the most famous blind holes in golf. If a goat crosses your fairway, that's part of the deal.
- Doonbeg €525 Greg Norman's links half an hour south, routed through dunes so good they reportedly took his breath away before construction even started.
- Ballybunion (Old Course) €450 A top-20 course in the world, a ferry ride across the Shannon away. Worth the whole detour day.
Where to eat
- O'Looney's Lahinch Dinner and a pint with the sea out the window — get anything with the local catch and watch the surfers work.
- Vaughan's Anchor Liscannor In Liscannor, five minutes up the coast road — one of Clare's best seafood rooms, full stop.
- Morrissey's Doonbeg A seafood bar in Doonbeg village — pair it with your round at the links down the road.
Where to drink
- Kenny's Bar Lahinch A fourth-generation family pub going back to the 1830s, and the best trad sessions in town, most nights of the week in summer. 19th hole pickA pint of stout when the session kicks off — the musicians rarely show before 10, so pace yourself.

Getting there
Shannon Airport (SNN) is about 45 minutes away — one of the easiest international-to-first-tee runs in golf. Lahinch takes visitor play May through October; book the Old Course months ahead and build the Cliffs of Moher into your off day.
